She began her musical studies in her home-town of Hamilton, Ontario where she completed her ARCT in piano performance as well as obtaining a college diploma in piano from Mohawk College. She spent the next 4 years in Montreal at McGill University to complete her B.Mus with a double major in Composition and Music Theory with a minor in piano. While living in Montreal she had the extreme pleasure of being commissioned by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra to write a piece for their children’s concert series.
Her roots called her homeward and she currently resides in Toronto where she completed her MA in Composition at York University. Her position at Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation inspired her thesis topic of Unitarian Universalist Liturgical Music. She continues to write and arrange music for the Spirit Choir (and whoever else wants her music!) as well as composing songs for congregational singing.
After completing the Musician’s Mentoring program at the National Ballet School, Susanne was able to further her curiosity and passion for the interplay of music with the other arts by developing her skills as a dance accompanist. The combination of improvisation, classical repertoire, and play allows her to fully explore her creativity in the context of a dance class. She is a regular accompanist at Pegasus Studios for both ballet and creative movement classes as well as George Brown College and the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts.
Susanne loves to sing! Along with her role as music director of the Spirit Choir at Neighbourhood, Susanne co-created the Comfort Choir with Amanda Fischer, a small group that sings at the bedsides of patients at Toronto East General Hospital. She also began a monthly Singing Meditation and Morning Chant to allow the community to share in chant and soulful singing in Neighbourhood’s beautiful sanctuary.
Susanne also loves to rock! She is the keyboardist, singer, and songwriter in her rock band, Three Minutes to Forever.
