Our Music: Come and Join Us

by Susanne Maziarz, Music Director at Neighbourhood

Are you hiding your inner rocker? There is a chance for you to come out and be part of the music made at our Sunday service.

Neighbourhood’s Spirit Band is always looking for instrumentalists and vocalists to join us in preparing for one of our Sunday services.

The Spirit Band core is Kendrew Pape (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Sean Thomas (guitar, vocals), Balazs Farkas (cajon, vocals) and Susanne Maziarz (bass, keys, vocals). We meet on Monday evenings, following the Spirit Choir rehearsal, from 9:30 – 11 pm and provide the music for one Sunday service every six weeks throughout the church year (September – June). It takes us a couple of weeks to throw song ideas around to make sure they relate well to the theme of the service (and to our musical abilities) and we rehearse for the three Mondays preceding the service we are scheduled for. For example: the theme of “Conflict As Opportunity” on May 15th inspired Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by The Animals and We Can Work It Out by The Beatles.

The next service we play, themed “Our Search for Meaning – What Did You Find?”, is June 19th. Does that strike any song ideas in you? Please come out and join the band; it is an opportunity to share your soul and spirit with this spiritual community unlike any other.
